My sister has booked flights to Rome next weekend for two nights and now she needs accomodation. It's a surprise trip for her and her boyfriend. Have any of you got any suggestions on where to stay. There's so many I don't know where to start. Please help! She wants somewhere near the Trevi fountain apparantly.

Use www.tripadvisor.co.uk to see hotel reviews and then use www.hotelscomparison.com to get the best deals. In terms of locations, Venere do decent hotel maps. Accomodation in Rome is very expensive, more so near the Trevi. We stayed near Termini station for convenience - they say its not the safest area though. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

Oh I loved Rome! Was there in August last year for my brothers wedding.
We stayed in Hotel Santa Maria, not far from the Trevi fountain about 10 mins walk, cant really recommend the hotel high enough!
Hope she has a great trip

I'm heading there this Thursday, never been before and can't wait! I'm a keen photographer and think I'm going to find huge inspiration around there (for free an all!! ha!)
I'm staying slightly outside of the city centre at a hostel - Tiber Village. Private twin room with ensuite for me and a mate from uni, about £10 each per night: http://www.campingtiber.com/

I booked the Hotel Corot, a minute away from Termini and where the airport bus drops you off, good rooms and a decent choice for breakfast, Picked it up pretty cheap from Expedia2p off is still 2p off!0

I agree that all the 'attractions' are spread out so as long as you're near a metro stop you're near anything, worth noting that the lines cross at Termini so handy to be near there I guess...2p off is still 2p off!0 -
I loved Rome - there is something to see on every street corner and it's compact enough to walk round. We stayed two streets from the railway station (termini) and had no trouble at all. Venere is a great site for hotels and the Rome pages at Virtual Tourist are fantastic for sightseeing ideas, travel tips etc.0

Rome to me is the best city destination. Last time we went we rented a lovely apartment in a suburbs but was next to Metro so we could go anywhere quickly.
Watch out for the taxi drivers some are robbers. We got charged about 40 Euros for a short taxi journey which should have been about 10. Told by landlord that this is quite common. Usual trick is that they pick you up in the street just before the rank.
Public transport is great buy daily or longer tickets from newsagents and can use on bus and subway. Can also buy joint tickets to get into several attractions which work out cheaper. I thought the forum was by far the most interesting sight and it is free as is the Vatican which is also stunning. Vatican museum has a charge but is not dear but go early as the queues are very lengthy.
We were given a guide book by Rick Steve, an American travel writer and he has a web site. The best guide book ever full of practical tips and none of this pretentious stuff that a lot of them tell you which is also humorous.
Enjoy we plan to go back again.0
