Just when you thought the battle was over, Blu-Ray commits a kamikaze shocker!
Once in a while we get a day of news so big it makes our bellies fizz - and today is one of them!
After thumping rival HD-DVD in the ultimate battle of the formats, Blu-Ray has inexplicably decided to call it a day - a move certain to leave consumers as gazumped as we are.
After getting the thumbs up from major US retailers, the world's largest film companies - Universal, Warner and New Line to name a few - and even the mighty world of !!!!!!, the victorious hi-def format says 'no more'.
One of the rumoured reasons for the mind-boggling move states that Blu-Ray big-wigs have developed a lack of faith in overly-advanced visual technology, and think people will soon revert to more traditional modes of viewing entertainment.
This links to the news from US insiders, which claims 2008 will see new versions of the PS3 with VHS players built-in.
As soon the smelling salts bring us out of our slack-jawed shock, we'll bring you more news as it comes.

I hear that Professor A Pril-Fuhel is their new head of R&D.
He was in charge in the Betamax years and has Clive Sinclair and the C5 on his CV as well

Its possible that Blue Ray will not reach the market levels of DVD .
Who wants a 50GB disc /drive that has DRM .
As to a backing up medium its much more expensive than HD and will probably not compete with the drive towards large flash based drives and video from the internet .
I had to have a DVD burner i have no reason to buy a Blue Ray burner .
HD tv/video most of the stuff i watch is old and anyway DivX/Xvid HD movies on a DVD may be the future .
