That's certainly possible if you get the same problem on another monitor.

Have you checked to see whether you have a separate graphics card? If so, you may find that there is also an on-board graphics chipset with its own VGA socket on the motherboard. If so, try rebooting with the monitor in that one - most BIOS are able to detect which is connected and switch to the on-board graphics automatically.
  • T hanks for your reply, yes I have done that but there is nothing not even a vertical line, the computer sound like it's booting up but no display from VGA on my LCD:confused:

If it's not too hard to open up, may be worthwhile taking a look inside to see if the graphics card is seated correctly in the socket - though I admit it would have to be very poorly made for it to move out of position and stop working.

If you can, I'd try removing the graphics card and then rebooting with the monitor connected to the motherboard VGA output.

If you still get no output, you may need to reset the BIOS to its defaults, either by removing the BIOS battery for a while or by shorting two pins (often marked CMOS reset) on the motherboard.
  • I will try the first two suggestions then the third if no luck, on the weekend I did open it up and it was very dusty but everything seamed secure. Just one more thing how do I reset the BIOS, where is the battery? icon9.gif

    Very much appreciated

The BIOS battery will be easy to find - basically a large version of a watch battery - usually a CR2032 lithium coin cell.
