Claiming IB online

Hi,

I have recently been made redundant after being off sick for two years, so made a claim for IB online. (Work had an insurance policy after my SSP ran out to pay 75% of my wages minus deductions for IB, but nobody told me about IB so I never claimed it.) I do receive DLA high rate care and low rate mobility for my illness.

The form asked me to state my availability for the next two working days for someone to call me back (I completed it on Sunday). No-one has called back as yet, is this normal or should I follow up?

Thanks for your help.

I would chase it up if I was you!

You might like to consider claiming Income Support providing you do not have savings of over £16k (if you are over 60 then you it should be Pension Credit instead) as you might be entitled to that also. If you live alone and no one receives Carers Allowance for you then you may be entitled to an extra amount of money called the Severe Disability Premium and Enhanced Disability Premium (based on your being in receipt of the Higher Rate of the DLA Care Component). In addition, if you have a mortgage, then the period that you were in receipt of SSP will contribute towards the time when you may be eligible for help with the interest on your mortgage.
However, Income Support is means tested. If you are still receiving money from your employers, that money will be taken into account and you may not be eligible as your income may exceed Income Support, but you won't know unles you submit a claim!
Once you make your respective claims if you obtain your SSP1 from your employer for IB purposes (along with medical certificates), and for your IS claim if you supply your last two wage slips (as any SSP received will have have to be taken into account) then your claims should be processed sooner rather than later!

I applied for incapacity benefit online. I had to chase it up as well, and when I did I had to repeat ALL of the information again over the phone. So in my experience don't bother doing it online, you'll end up repeating the same stuff again over the phone anyway.

I'm an experienced advisor and as a one off I did an online claim for a client who wasn't capable of managing their own affairs.

It disappeared into cyberspace. Thank goodness we printed off a confirmation with reference nbr. No-one ever located the claim and after various officers told me it was impossible to claim online I then provided the receipt. Someone then kindly admitted it would go into "an inbox somewhere" but they didn't know where. We had to start the whole claim again.

I only mentioned about my being experienced as if I can't get to the bottom of it (and I'm like a dog with a rat) what hope is there for claimants.

Ring the call centre on 0800 055 6688 and claim via them for both IB and IS. Keep your online receipt and send this in with the claim after it's been sent out to you (keep a copy!). It should be backdated.
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!
  • Claims are only partly done online the rest is completed on the phone, when an advisor should call you back within 2 working days. But there has been a change around recently and this is taking a bit longer than usual to do.
If you call up and inquire then you will need to answer the questions again as there is know way for the advisor to find your internet claim.

For the whole claim to be processed you need to make a 30/40 min call to answer some questions and then a benefit office will start to process this can take up to 2 weeks depending on how meny claims there are to deal with. In the mean time a statement would be sent out to you and you would need to send this back after checking and adding whatever documents were asked for.

    Hope this helps.
