I think they're cockles. Not entirely sure, even though my office over looks a fishing harbour, could someone please confirm

Used to go picking them in Anglesey, along with winkles (stop it, purpleluvbug!) and barnacles. Oh, and mussels. The Menai Straits were not the best place to pick molluscs, when you think that - at least in those days - the effluent from all the Scouse and Mancunian burghers, along with the (non-existant, of course:rolleyes:) radioactive waste from Windscale all flowed through them.

Them's cockles.
