Hi hope someone can help me with this.....not sure how to explain but will do my best!!
I am using windows xp and since a while when I open several things like internet explorer, itunes-store, ebay turbo lister-update, - if I am not already connected to the internet they don't automatically open the screen to connect they just seem to lock and nothing happens. I use firefox most which is set to my default browser but this always works fine?
Anyway it's starting to annoy me now and I have tried to look through the settings on my internet connections but everything seems to be ok?
The only odd thing that I have found is that in Network connections my Broadband connection is in the dial up section and I can't seem to change it or create a new broadband connection.
Can anyone give me any ideas??? Thanks in advance :T

Are you using an adsl usb modem, or router?
What settings have you got in ie, tools, internet options, connections
what software firewall are you usingEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks for replying.
I am using an ADSL Modem.
Just the windows security firewall.
in connections "I have always dial my default connection" but it does seem to show this as if its a dial up connection not broadband which it is? (I don't even have a dial up modem built in my pc!)
I forgot to say before I think this problem started after unistalling the "onspeed" software but I have removed all of that.0 -
Does the dial-up connection detail have a phone number embedded in it (if not, it is probably your adsl connection if you are using a usb modem).
Has your isp got any free router offers on atm, they give better protection than a modem, and would resolve the problem.
So you launch firefox after switching on the pc, and if not connected you get the prompt to connect, but if you launch IE straight after a reboot/switch on, it doesn't happen?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
No don't think they have got any free routers on at the moment.albertross wrote: »So you launch firefox after switching on the pc, and if not connected you get the prompt to connect, but if you launch IE straight after a reboot/switch on, it doesn't happen?
Yes that's correct - it happens with IE and few other things including i-tunes store and also slimbrowser that I have - but think that is cos it's similar setting to IE?0 -
A bit out of ideas, try setting it to manual connection in IE, try it, then set it back to automatic.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thanks again :T
But unfortunately I have tried that and it didn't work!
Think maybe I will just have to forget about it for now - although it can be really frustrating when doing some things.
