Removal Quotes

I'm just wondering what people have paid for removal services. I did request quotes from several firms via some website or other but only one and a half have got back to me. One I'm too frightened to phone back as he actually used the words "I give you good price" on my voicemail.
As they can't be bothered, I'm wondering what others have paid as a comparison? How many bedrooms and what price if you don't mind?
A nice man came and surveyed our stuff and he's quoted me £595 inclusive of VAT. 5 bedrooms but we don't really have that much stuff! No junk to speak of. That's with us packing and them moving it. All fully insured and memebr of a guild and the ombudsman, provided me with a copy of their inspection report etc.
If I'd known removals were that reasonable I'd have used them more than never!

i paid £400 for a 2 bed, but we were only moving 3 miles down the road.
Check the T&C's in the insurance. A friends policy only insured each 'box' to a maximium of £50 regardless of the content.
i'm not sure why, but i think you may be quite local to me (east london). if so, drop me a pm and i'll give you their details if interested.0 -

In Cardiff, for a 3 bedroom house moved 12 miles including all packing, but not including most of the additional insurance waivers, we got 2 quotes, both in the £500-600 range.
Definitely check the T&C's, especially if you don't take all the waivers. One company charged 60% of the price for cancellation, the other 100%; one provided much better default cover for accidental damage to the house. Given the quotes were so similar, we chose our winner on these details.0 -
I looked at the pics of your new house on your old thread and just wondered - Looking like it does and overlooking the Malvern Hills, are you sure motorised transport is allowed? Are there roads or just bridleways to it?
I suggest you try an old-established company like PackHorseTrains'R'us. Sherpas might be able to help!0 -

LOL! The big grand house that the stalls were built for was demolished in 1977 and a lovely new build estate built there instead  You have to drive past some 'attractive' 1970's bungalows to reach our place. It's on the edge, but still very much in the village.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

we paid a "Man in a van" (well 3 turned up actually and insisted on doing all the lifting) £220 to move our stuff from a 4 bedroom to our 3 bed rented with luckily a very large cellar. He quoted us on the offchance after seeing our SOLD sign when delivering a table and chairs before we moved. We were moving 3 miles down the road.
Bargain considering the best "professional" quote we had was £650.... we did give em all a healthy tip though.0 -
Hi we moved in September 4-bed to 4 bed (3 kids incl teenager!), packed and unpacked ourselves, we got 3 quotes and took the cheapest (fully insured etc) - £645. We moved 8 miles down the road, the other quotes were around that figure, I think the most was £700. Moving again (hopefully) very soon but this time it's going to be paid for OH's work.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0

Hi, we moved in January and H (getting a little carried away) got about 12 quotes (!) and they ranged from £250 to about £800. We went with one in the middle-ish for £450. We did all our own packing, but they provided all the boxes (and wardrobe boxes, how marvellous they were!) and loads of bubble wrap and tape. This was from a 3 bed to a 3 bed, only about 2 miles down the road

Oh, and you say you don't have much stuff? You'll be surprised once you start packing it! I was completely ruthless in the weeks leading up to moving and we STILL managed to fill 45 boxes and that wasn't including the wardrobes ones! You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

What is a wardrobe box

Just for comparison - We paid 700 - 800 to have 2 chaps come to the south of france, pack up about 10 boxes of valuables and breakables and ship 'em to the uk - Bargain if you ask me.Tiff Appreciation Society Member #50 -

We didn't have to unpack the wardobes at all, the chaps simply lifted everything into these and then out again at the other end. Marvellous! You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that
