First Direct: £100 for joining - £100 for leaving?? Anyone done this?

Has anyone actually managed to get £100 of them for leaving?
I've got it for joining no problems...have to wait till August to try and get the other £100 when I leave - its a good bank though!

    Hi SJB

Im doing this too! Not managed to get my 100 quid for opening the account yet, but its not been 28 days since I transfered my money into there.

Are you getting your wages payed into this account? I am still getting mine paid into my Barclays account then moving them across. Doing this because I was planning on closing the account after 6 months (to get the 600 quid) however as you are saying they seem like a very good bank and now I dont want to leave!

Hmmm me thinks the temptation of the extra cash may prove too much and I may have to try and close my account
    2008 is the year to:
1.Sort out electricity meter (if its the last thing I do-at least is means my other half will be left with the bill  )
2.Save enough c/card points for holiday to Mauritius next year
3.Start stoozing-maybe a slow one to begin with!

You may well 'blag' the first £100 with a BACS transfer, but I think that, unless you mandate your salary for 6 months, you'll have little/no chance of getting the £100 'leaving present'.

This is because before paying out they'll analyse your account to see how you've been operating it, and try and find out why you're "not happy with it".
  • I've been using firstdirect for many years and like it. The only thing is they do charge for an international transfer into the account, unlike Halifax, and now they have started charging monthly fees although they can be easily waivered. However my friend took £100 offer to open account, by making a £1500 direct debit. He got the £100 for joining easily. He did try to get the £100 for leaving but was unsuccessful. His disgruntlement was that on his Mac he couldn't use the internet banking plus facility which displays all bank account details as I can on my PC. However FD claimed that this was an extra service so it didnn't matter that he was unhappy. He is trying to fight this but I don't suppose he'll be successful.

    Has anyone been successful?
  • I was under the impression IB+ is an optional service that you don't have to have an FD account to use, so it's not really a legitimate reason to close an account and get £100.
  • I'll know I'm doing much better financially when I have the head space an organisational skills to take advantage of things like this.
