L&J,
We are with Tiscali Talk, (I know.. I know the Indian customer service is appalling and it took them 4 month to transfer the line rental from BT etc’ etc’) BUT we are using them now on the £14.99/month Broadband/free weekends calls/free line rental.
In light of their recent price update (1.5 p/m for evening calls instead of 5p/hour and the
4 p/m day time calls) I am looking to devise a plan on making our phone calls a bit cheaper!
My idea (but correct me if I am wrong) is:
- To use 18185 (0808 1 703 703 for non BT line rental) at 1 p/m in the daytime and evenings to 01/02 numbers and mobiles.
-To use Tiscali for weekend calls to 01/02 numbers (free)
-To use 0844 providers to call abroad (and Skype where possible)
Can you think of any other way?, until now 5p/hour was as good as 18185 but now not as good, by the way, for all other numbers - we don’t make many calls to 0871/ 0845 numbers so this is not an issue.
At the moment all of our communication needs cost us between £16to£18 per month.
Mind you Mrs Flimzybottom is not going to be happy if she need to dial a prefix on the weekdays (I see it coming but I am still walking upright ... under the carpet!)
Regards

Tiscali have well and truly stuffed their customers locked into the £14.99 p bundle by dropping their evening rate of 5p a call for 60 minutes, and replaceing it with 1.5p a minute. But their were lots of warnings here about the danger of moving your line rental from BT to other suppliers.
Unlike some contracts you dont appear to be able to get out of it if price goes up.You accept when taking out the contract that
7.1 We will invoice you for the Services in line with our Charges, and you agree to pay us the amount you are invoiced in accordance with such Charges. You accept that we consider anyone using the Services at the Installation Address to be authorised by you and that you must pay all Charges due from that use.
7.2 We may update our Charges from time and time, and any changes will be posted on our Website.
Depending on how long the geographical call is going to last how about using 05pence if Tiscali recognise their 0844 Number, 6p connection but only half a pence a minute for UK Geographical Calls.
