We have a problem every year with wasps getting into the house. I'm not sure how they get in but I keep having to buy expensive wasp sprays to kill them. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to going near them.
Does anyone know where I can pick up cheap sprays, or does anyone have any other suggestions for getting rid of them or discouraging them from coming in the house?

Any suggestions would be great thankyou.

You can make traps, into which you put a sweet liquid to attract them and then dispose of them. Yet another use for the ubiquitous 2 litre plastic bottle.

If you've got a Lidl nearby they have fly nets for the windows at £1.99 & are on sale from Thursday.

How about a bead / bamboo curtain to hang at open doors? These are supposed to stop flying insects.

I once had a massive wasps nest in the loft over the bathroom. I found that Mr Muscle shower shine makes short work of them I think a surfactant in the stuff dissolves something important to the wasp. It was always a bit hairy trying to get out of the shower, when one is at one's most vulnerable it's good to have something to rely on :D

Thanks for the suggestions, I will be saving my plastic bottles, checking out Lidl for supplies and hoping I never get a nest over the bathroom!!

A good way to kill off wasps is to drown the little beggers. Water with something sweet to attract them is good, but the trick is to also add a spot of washing up liquid. This breaks the surface tension of the water so they get waterlogged and drown Mwahaahaa
p.s. wasps are the only creature I would kill so wantonly (well maybe slugs and snails too) ;)

We seem to get quite a few wasps coming in, esp first thing in the morning (the bedroom is south-facing). No idea why they are so keen to come inside.

We just tend to leave them, they usually find their way out the way they came in, tho if one gets particularly annoying, I might read it a rolled up newspaper ;-)

At least they make a change from ladybirds.
  • i used to just run, literally! but now i protect myself with one of those electric tennis rackets! not sure where it came from - think just some cheap book club type catalogue at my step dad's work. think it only cost about £10

like the bottles i remeber a similar thing using an old jar and lid. put a spoon of jam in the jar mix with water, make a hole in the lid big enough for a wasp to get though, screw the lid back on the jar, put a little tempting sweet mix around the hole and you've got a little trap.

i don't normaly kill living things but for wasps i make an acception i'm afraid.

never forgave the species after one wasp crawled up my sleeve and got caught under a strap and stung me 4 times when i was about 11/12.

wasps I hate the little beggers...spray around the out side of your windows doors air holes with cheap fly spray it will deter them...once had a nest under the bath...they came out of every crack in the bloody house...nasty sods they are...I am allergic to them so as soon as I realise they is alot of wasps I get on the phone to the beeman as I call him and he comes round charges £17.50 to get rid of any nests and he comes back for nothing if they don't go...but they usually do...in the first go...:D
