hi i just thought id let people know that if you or somebody in your family gets dla then you should check out if your eligible to get capped water rates( only applies to metered water) .
if your child goes to a special school and doesnt use the transport then you can clain fuel costs back @14p per mile.
you may be entitled to a warmfront grant to help with loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
the family fund can help with items needed for a child--you have to be on a low income.
the other thing that people dont generally know about it shared care......you can get some help with caring for your child. my daughter goes to a lady for 4 hrs a week so that i can a little respite and time to do things with my other children that they cant normally do. social services would help with this.

In our area it's a social tariff if you are on a water meter and the person's disability requires you to use more water.0 -

sorry in leicestershire if you don't use transport provided for the child you won't get reimbursed travelling costs.
I did for 1 year but then they changed there policy, so that you could only claim if there was no space on the bus or none in your area.
i do think its a disgrace and i have to cover the cost myself as i enjoy taking and fetching my daughter why should i not just cos she got special needs.0 -
as said in another post you can get capped water rates but only if your child needs more water than normal.i.e my daughter has a gastrostomy so is automatically entitled but even if she didnt she has a lot of chest infections and dribbles a lot so i have to constantly washher clothes ,,,,sometimes its 3 clothes changes a day.
all you have to do is call your water supplier and ask them
hope this helps....
id just like to say i was a little offended by the comment,,,,,,only disabled children again......

I'm so sorry for having a child with downs and a child with a major heart defect and achondroplasia. Must be real hard having a non-disabled child and not getting benefits aimed at helping them0 -
No its wen she becomes an adult and you get no help that you will understand my point. Come back when you know what you are talking about. Its very hard having a disabled adult and not getting benefits aimed at them. Much harder than looking after a disabled child that you can in most cases lift and have many resources. Downs children can live long happy lives but the help runs out pretty quick once they hit adulthood. I wish you all the luck for the future sadly the way the system works you will need it.fryster2006 wrote: »I'm so sorry for having a child with downs and a child with a major heart defect and achondroplasia. Broken hearted - Although I don't support your attitude towards people with disabled children (many who are really struggling to cope). I do understand what you are saying about help for adults. My husband works in the adult services, and so although our child is not in the adult system yet, we have had some insight and I'm not looking forward to going into the adult system. I believe a fairer benefits system would significantly increase carer's allowance to reflect the amount of work involved which is often 24/7. We also need more day services where at present all the government wants to do is close them, and because it dosn't effect much of the community and the carer's are already worn down, most are closed quite easily!!0

Who will eventually become disabled adults, perhaps instead of sniping at all the parents with disabled children you could possibly give us an insight into what we as parents are to expect in the future. You know you might even be of some help to others, rather than wallow in self pity all the time.Broken_hearted wrote: »Yet again its only for disabled children.Hit the snitch button!member #1 of the official warning clique.
