Credit Card Payment Protection Cover

I wonder if anyone can help me. My husband has a Abbey National (MBNA) credit card which we have recently had to put forward to the C.C.C.S. Would he be able to claim back the payment protection if it has already been passed to C.C.C.S? I have 6 years worth of statements which add up to quite a bit, never once had to use the insurance. I've downloaded the templates on this web site but got quite confused which route to take trying to get a refund. Thanks
