Advice on moving into a repossessed house please

Hello all

I'm around 2 weeks away from exchanging on my first house which is a repossession and I need a little advice. The good side from this is we have got the asking price down from 135k to 120k however all the utilities, gas, water and electricity have been turned off. Can you advise me on the best way to get everything turned back on and also the best providers at the moment?

Also I'm unsure of whether the previous occupants have any sort of debts held against them as I don't want debt collectors paying me any visits. Is there any agencies thast I can contact to reduce this happening?

Also any other advice would be much appriciated!!!!

Thanks!

You may need to employ a plumber to re-fill the central heating system (assuming its not electric). Turning the gas & electric on should be a case of flicking a switch, if you don't feel like turning the gas on yourself, use a Corgi registered plumber to do the central heating & they can check the gas while at the property.

As for the best utility companies, use the price comparison web sites or check the correct forum on MSE.

If you do get debt collectors calling, inform them of when you purchased the property, keep some form of proof close to the front door. Also tell them the name & tel number of the agent you purchased the property through.
