Help!! Can I find out if I am insured??

I am having a bit of a panic, so am posting on here to see if anyone can help.

I phoned my home insurerer to see if I am covered for a broken oven, only to be told my policy ran out in May 2007. I can't find any paperwork for a new policy. I went on to confused.com to look for a new policy and an old search for home insurance came up for May 2007 - but I don't know if I took a policy up. At this time my baby went in to intensive care and was very poorly for a while so I may have overlooked actually taking out a policy. I can't find a renewal letter either.

Is there any way for me to find out if my house is insured?

Please help, I'm gobsmacked to be in this mess!

if youhave no documents then check to see if you have an direct debits going out to insurance companies and then check with them, aside of that check with debit and credit card statements around the time the last pol ended (a month or so eitherside) and see if you made any payments to insurers.
