ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I get followed around my local Primark,, My sister and I go in at least once a month for a farily big shop, and maybe once a month for a smaller,, spare £10 shop, I have a huge buggy, with hood, winter dress thing down the back and cosy toes,, (big basket underneath too) or I use a smaller umbrella one,, we often try stuff on on the shop floor to avoid the huge changing room queues,,
The security man loves us,, its gotten to the stage we tease himBut we always pay, and he still follows. Can see why though, if i wanted to fill my buggy in there on a sat it would be so easy,, as the shop is so busy and full.
When i shop in the supermarket with the buggy on my own, i have a 2 year old in the buggy and a 4 year old who stands on the back of the shopping basket (stands up through the handle,, he doesnt get tired,, i love my huge ebay bargain buggy) I actually put the heavy things/bulky stuff into my basket on the bottom,, nappy and milk that I cant balance on top,, i always make a point of showing the lady at the till the underneath so she can see i have emptied it,, this seems to appease the security man
but next time i shall just ask him to carry it for me as he may aswell be shopping with me
I hope you feel better about things now, it is horrible, My Hubby is quite successful, and I still get looked down on,, because I have two little ones with me,, My advice is to make light of it and have a little bit of fun with them,, they are only doing their jobsxx

I see that all the time in each of the two Lidl stores I go to, & have done it the odd time when I've found myself without a pound coin for a trolley (a Lidl trolley 'stole' my keyring charity coin, so won't use one there again)
but an experience last week shows they do pay attention ... I was shopping in the Lidl near my mum's & I'd taken her 99p heavy-duty Lidl-branded carrier in with me. it looked like rain, so I had my folding brolly in the bag in case I needed it on the way back
I never pack at the checkout as it slows the queue down too much, & as I was getting my purse out to pay, the male assistant lifted the bag out of the trolley, opened it up & looked inside, 'people sometimes hide stuff in their carriers' he said
I was slightly offended at the time, but got over it quickly, they have to be on their toes0 -
I wouldn't mind him looking in the bag. I damn well would if he didn't ask first, though! Fair enough, force the issue if I said no, but that's so disrespectful.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

That could have been me! When I'm in a hurry and need only a couple of things, I don't bother with the fuss of getting a trolley (first, find a pound coin .... ). I just put my shopping into the semi-transparent used plastic bags I recycle from another shop, and then tip them out at the cash desk.
Do you really think I would get away with pushing my way past the queue at the cash desk, carrying two or three full shopping bags? "Excuse me, excuse me, can't you see I'm trying to do a bit of heavy-duty shoplifting here. Please move out of the way."
Or do you think the shop manager was trying to be nice to you by listening to your warning, rather than just suggesting you don't jump to conclusions quite so quickly in future!0 -
What's the idea with them not providing baskets? Is it to try to make people get a trolley, thus being more likely to get more shopping than they came in for?!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I think that is typecasting a bit saying most would steal. I like many other mums had to use my buggy to carry items as shopping is not easy with a buggy in tow but I certainly never stole anything.
Re lidls people here tend to use card board boxes for their shopping. Yes no baskets because they want you to buy more. Tesco's realising how popular the small trolleys were with shoppers made them 30% bigger so people would buy more!~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

You are absolutely right! If we were all limited to buying only what we could carry home ourselves, do you think our diets might improve? We'd have to stick to the essentials only, and forget all the extras.
Perhaps that's a good game to play if you are either dieting or trying not to spend so much money - go round the shop and ignore everything that could be classed as an "extra" ..... ignore the hot chocolate, the biscuits, the wine (no forget that advice, put the wine back in), the stollen, the luxury fruit muesli.
I can feel the pounds rolling off already.0 -
Leave the car at home and go with a list would also work.
Mind the best way I find to cut down is to ask oh to pick up some stuff on his way home from work. He asks what I want. If it's not on the list we don't have. If they don't have what I specify that he doesn't substitute. All these years of training and still when I say "oh and you know something nice to munch on" he brings home a bag of pistachio nuts. I want choccie!!~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I've been making a meal plan and taking a list. I don't buy anything that's not on the list unless it's something I use regularly and it's on offer (like the fair trade coffee I got today.)
I don't buy any 'extras'. If I want a sweet thing I have to go to the trouble of making muffins, biscuits etc, so I generally don't bother. And finally I'm shifting my pregnancy weight!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
