ok, we may be a victim of fraud here and our bank halifax says theres nothing they can do to find out who cashed our cheque?!!! i think this is absolutely rediculous!
Anyway we sent a cheque to pay for our service charge for our property a few months ago and we received a letter from them saying they didnt get it. So we checked our statement and found that the cheque has been cashed! seeing as the bank cant find out who cashed the cheque theres no way of proving we sent it and someone has taken our money!
Surely there must be something we can do?!!!

I always thought that the bank was able to tell you who cashed a cheque, I remember several years ago we were able to find out who cashed a cheque that we had paid someone, maybe try your bank again - did you ring them last time or go in branch - might be worth doing whichever you didnt do or just the same - you'll probably get a different person with a different answer next timeWeight Loss - 102lb0

Could you request a copy of the cheque?0

Request a copy of the cheque as it will have the details of the bank account it was paid into printed on the reverse.0

ah good news! the property management people has admitted cashing the cheque but for the wrong property! only after my partner faxed them our statement. I'm still annoyed with halifax though :mad:0

would i have to pay for that?0

I've had copies of cheques from Nationwide without a fee, but obviously every bank is different. It'd be a bit out if they want you to pay but you know what places are like these days!0

glad the money has been 'found' - assuming the cheue was clearly marked for your a/c, have they offered (did you ask??) for refund of copy cheque costs, calls, or maybe even some comp for falsely alleging you hadnt paid on time?
don't know if credit rating is affected by this, but worth checking.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
I think the data protection act prevents halifax from telling you who cashed a cheque.0

How on earth can the Data Protection Act prevent them telling the OP about their own account?
That's almost as bad as the police force who didn't want to release a photo of a wanted person because they thought it was against the DPA................====0
