Replace Honda FR-V with Land Rover Discovery at what price?

Hi there,

My friend has her eye on a Land Rover Discovery 2005 reg. She has been in negotiations with a car dealership. Today they've rung her and said they'd have a deal if she pays £12000 to get the Land Rover and offered circa £8000 for her Honda FV-R (15,000 miles, 2005 reg and immaculate) to set off the remaining costs.

Does that seem like a fair deal to you? I've been looking around and I'm pretty sure she could get at least 10K for her Honda? Also, what price do you think would be reasonable to haggle the Land Rover (with similar mileage and in very good condition) down to?

Any helpful advice, hints and tips greatly appreciated!!

What spec is the Discovery? The prices vary tremendously.

LOL:rotfl: sorry, should have asked her before really. OK here it goes:

It's for a Land Rover Discovery TDV6 SE, Diesel (2005 reg)
with parking centre (I suppose alloys are standard?) it had done 27,000 miles

Anyways just to clarify, the car dealers actually offerd £8,200 for the Honda and they'd set that off to get the Land Rover TDV6 SE for £12,700 so remainder is £4,500.

What model version is the Honda? The p/x prices range from about £7.5k - £11.5k depending on which one she has. Also is it an 05 or 55 registration?

Something wrong here. The cheapest Discovery 3 I could find on autotrader was £14990 for a '54' reg 2005 with 115,000 miles.

£12700 rings alarm bells with me as to condition or provenance or both.

i reckon your figures are right, except that they want your friends car plus £12,000 pounds,if it really is a discovery 3 tdv6 for £12,000 that is an absolute bargain and you would have traders beating a path to there showroom,,ps you couldn't tell me where it is could you;)

Yep. I think that is the most likely explanation as well.

But that is basically still £12,700 plus £8,200 for the Land Rover = a good £21,000.

    Somewhere in the Northwest

 Your earlier posts seem to suggest that it is £12,700 sticker price for the Disco with £8,200 being allowed for the p.ex leaving £4500 to find in cash. I think this is too cheap.

Now you are saying it could be £20900 sticker with £12700 to find. This is a reasonable price for a Disco of the age you describe, depending on spec and whether its a 54, 05 or 55 reg..
