Does anyone know of any bargains online or in the shops for feed, weed and moss killer? We have a very big lawn and it costs a fortune for this stuff, but I cut the grass today and there are loads of weeds and mossy patches.

  • How big are we talking ? I just bought a bag from Focus , enough to cover 230msq for £9.99 . Obviously the bigger the quantity the cheaper it gets . Let me know if you find cheaper

Its 1/4 of an acre approx, I haven't actually worked out how many square yards that is yet. The cheapest seems to be Wilkinsons own (don't know how good it is though) at £15 for 500 square metres.

Perhaps someone could give me some advice on dealing with moss. my lawn is approx 20' x 50' and this year it's mostly moss. It's like walking on a thick duvet. Should I just rake the lot off and leave myself with mud, then sew grass seed, or do i use 'feed weed and moss killer' (there's not much left to feed).I think the very wet summer caused it, as I've never had this problem before.Any advice would be helpful, thanks

if its like a cushion ontop we had this and was a thick thatch layer which aslo was the main cause for the moss, to get rid of the moss we had to get rid of the thatch so we got greenthumb to give it a scarification with their machines.

wilkos stuff is cheap, but we found to be almost useless! evergreen wasnt much better, best stuff is the liquid stuff but is pretty expensive. might be worth getting a quote from greenthumb, might be more than your looking to pay though although pretty cheap considering the prices of some of the stuff!

I'm giving some consideration to buying one of these tomorrow at Aldi it's the cheapest price I've seen a scarifier anywhere other than Fleabay.

they are ok if you do it once a year and your lawn isnt too bad, if it already has quite a bad thatch layer your wasting your time with them as they onlt really take the moss up, yuo want to get rid of the cause off moss and those scarifiers are just plain rubbish unless its already a good lawwn to keep ontop of it.

Jamjar you aint gonna cure this without a bit of hard work, either hire a lawn stripper and returf ie start again, or get the old lawn raker electric or hand held, buy the stuff from Wilkinsons in a box weed feed and mosskiller, mix with grit sand half and half, and if its a big lawn use a spreader which u can push round then get to work. your 1st year will be hard but i can tell you the 2nd year will be much easier use the stuff from wilko's twice a year and its damn good stuff, i get praise on my lawn but catch it at the front end and just b4 the back end and you'll soon see the results then you can start using lawn green and fertiliser's, jamjar you sound like the sort of person who wants to sort this without expert company's so crack on and try this next year they'll wanna host the FA cup final on it!
