£3K ish car for 21 year old female.

I'm paying towards it for a 21st birthday present.

Tempted by an MG convertible :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
MX5??

... or something [STRIKE]boring[/STRIKE] sensible?

You're only 21 once after all.

    Definately an MX5 :)

You'll get a nice Mk1 for your money and they're not too bad to insure, some older ones even qualify for classic car insurance.

An MG convertible. Reminds me of my friend who went to Germany to work for a year for part of his degree. Boss had an MG convertible. Friend said he commented it was a wonderful piece of British engineering (a joke for the German's). His response, you think they'd make it so the roof doesn't leak, there's lots of rain in Britain. :rotfl:

The insurance cost is probably the most important factor in the choice. I'd be tempted to forego the fabric roof and add a litre or two to the engine :D
  • MGs are unreliable, aren't they?

They're cheaper than MX5s ... but MX5s are very reliable, apparently.

    Oh dear.

tbh honest id go for something more sensible-a clio or a ford ka are popular with my dd and her mates-for £3k youd get a decent one that would last a while
got dd an x-reg clio with 21k miles, 12 months mot, 6 months tax, for £2,200 and £900 for years fully comp insurance-3k plus gone just like that-but its been a brill car and she loves it x
even god cant change the past-no matter how many times i cry
for levi, leo, smudge and arfa:A my angels

    Stay clear of the MG's.

Stick with the MX-5 without a doubt!

For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!
  • MX5. Unbeatable.
  • That's it then.

Help me find one near Cardiff :)

For a cheap MX-5 alternative, I *think* the Ford Probe was based on the MX-5 platform and you can buy those for peanuts now. I personally think the Ford Probes look pretty cool. Guess that only goes to show how important personal preferences are as well as reliability etc.

    Reading the title...

..made me think it sounded like a good swap proposition!

Apologies for the warped sense of humour.

btw - MX5 is a good bet. (non PAS has better driving feel and it isnt to heavy to turn)

    Nearly!! ;)

The Ford Probe was based on the MX-6 platform.

The MX-5 is a Sports Roadster, the Probe is a bigger Sports Coupe and not what I'd consider a 'typical' 21 year old womans car.
