Had a quick look on the board but couldn't find anything
we've just taken up a carpet and there is a massive oil stain from a oil filled radiator which leaked about 30 years ago (thats my grandad for you!!) Has anyone got any idea on how to remove it? I did a google search and tried the white/metholated spirit idea but to no avail
Cheers

We have at work a spray the sparkies use to clean all electrical items with. I have personally used it at home to remove grease from swede shoes (car grease that had been rubbed in), grease from garments, cushions etc. It works a treat and does not leave any residue.
I have had a look at the can and this one is manufactured by "Viking Chemicals" Warwickshire tel. 024 76322155. The product is called "Electrical cleaner (Solvent cleaner)".0 -
Depending on how far the oil has penetrated you may be able to sand away the top layer of wood to reach cleaner wood underneath. I have heard of folk using a product called OxiClean (I belive that you can buy it in Asda) to remove oil from wood - link here. A strong solution is needed and you should use a scrubbing brush to get right into the grain of the wood. Apart from those suggestions you could always replace the offending floorboards?0
