Change the SMTP server setting to whatever is specified by your ISP.

Are you getting any error messages?

Have you checked the settings to make sure you have them setup correctly- possibly the smtp server address is incorrect

Does the server name have to start with SMTP or could it be eg mail.jpnet.ch?

I'm trying to sort it out for someone who has been set up with a new account but hasn't been left any such info!
    thanks

Err... the error message is in French, but i think is the usual kind of business re verifying passwords, SMTP, impossible to connect to server etc

    thanks

Go to the ISP's website to get the SMTP server details.

    Hmm - tried that - it's just really advertising - jpnet.com
no server address - by I think it is mail.jpnet.ch - does that sound likely?
    thanks

looks ok to me- I can resolve the name mail.jpnet.ch to an IP address, so it must be published, smtp.jpnet.ch does not resolve.

Could be an authentication issue (username/password) or could be using a none standard port

Thanks - on the outgoing mail part I put that address in, with port 25, but still isn't working. I tried adding a username etc, but it's still not working.

Bit of a pain. The guy who set them up with it wasn't able to solve it either! Because I think he prefers to use Outlook.

So I don't know what we're going to do.

Thank goodness for my mac which I understand!!

Can you get the guy who set them up to send you the settings he uses for outlook?

At least then you should have all the info you need & will just need to play around with Thunderbird a bit.
