Crash course / intensive course query

Hi,
I'm thinking about learning to drive and a lot of people have recommended crash courses, but none of them have actually taken any.
Can anyone help me out by telling me what they know about them?
How long they can last for example, or if I'm guaranteed a pass at the end. The average cost would help too, since I really don't want to get ripped off. Any companies you'd recommend would be great!
