Myself and 2 friends are moving into a furnished rented property. As part of the tenancy agreement we need to get contents insurance.
Looked on Insuresupermarket and initially the quotes were great - about £111 for contents and personal possessions upto 15k for the year.
However, go to the insurer's site and it soon changes. I've noticed when I put my housemates are not family members, the price rockets up, to about £600!
Does anyone know of any good companies I could try? We are 3 males, all in employment and with no previous no claims and no convictions/law problems. I imagine we need about 15k worth of cover for our possessions.
Anyone have any pointers? Many thanks in advance.

always tricky to insure this type of scenario - i'd try endsleigh if i were you, they tend to be set up for this kind of thing. I dont know about thier prices, but I'd expect you'd be able to get the right type of policy.
http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/web/policies/youngpersons/index.htmlif it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0 -
Cheers for the advice.
Endsleigh were as you say quite competitive for this and were one of the front runners.
However I found https://www.homequotedirect.co.uk by far and a way the cheapest (well £60 cheaper than Endsleigh anyway.
Happy ending all round. Cheers again.0 -
I got a much better quote from CIS for a London flat shared between two people than Endsleigh. Endsleigh offered £390 for £10,000 with accidental damage. CIS offered £220 for £40,000 with accidental damage (£40k is the minimum at which accidental damage is available with CIS).0

thats the problem with insurance, the way the insurer rates for each individual circumstance is always going to be different, hence hunting around for prices is a bit of a slog. Otherwise everyone would just say 'direct line are the best, go there' and we'd all be sorted. Nice that there are options other than endsleigh for this type of cover. Thanks!if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0

A similar situation - but it's for 2 students sharing a flat.
My son was in a house of 6 last year, he had Endsleigh and just insured his own property, have I got this right that you are discussing one policy for the whole household, can this be done and it it cheaper than both lads getting their own cover?0 -
Try https://www.saxoninsurance.com whose contents policies for students start at about £30.00 for £10000 cover which is arranged with Norwich Union. They have been in business quite some years.A lot cheaper than Endsleigh.0

I just had a quick look, it looks to be lots cheaper, have you posted this info on the students board? it will be appreciated I'm sure.0

i used Endsleigh when sharing with two mates. Most insurance companies don't understand that you're sharing a house with friends and expect you to keep all your stuff in your bedroom behind a locked door.
Endsleigh had no problem insuring us and i think charged £127 for the year.0 -
Hi - on looking on the students board Saxon get favourable mentions on price and service.Endsleigh are mentioned several times as being expensive.0
