I have yet to recieve that level of interest on my current account with them. I once had over £700 in the account for a month and there was only a pound interest put on, when I asked the woman in the bank she told me to put all my money in the plus saver account and then move it over as and when because that was what she did.

Would agree with the anti-lloyds comments, they are useless, i was combined with my mothers account, i mean gosh why wouldn't my mother want an account with her husband for 25 years when it could be with her 19 year old son.... madness

They lost forms, rang up on a number of occasions, though the person phoning had no idea why, she rang up went 'hello this is .... from Lloyds TSB i've been asked to call you' 'right ok' 'yes um....so is anything the matter' 'i'm sorry?' 'well it says on the computer to ring you, is something the matter' etc.... Why would the customer service people even pick up the phone if they didnt know why they were calling? madness....

Internet banking with them is pointless as well, 6 million codes and pins and forms to fill in and ring to confirm certain transactions on your account as proof you are who you say you are.....madness

Mother stayed with RBS (since 1972), i changed to HSBC who are amazing, quick service, brilliant internet banking, longest phone wait about 30seconds, english speaking people (so far), internet banking was set up when i signed up, sent me the access number, then i put in DOB and the 8-10 digit number, i gave them when i signed up, its a number i gave them so i know it, unlike lloyds who gave me random numbers i didnt have a clue how to remember.

The intrest rate is poo 0.1% i think, but frankly i will swipe off my savings every month just to get good service, and the speed money goes out, the intrest rate doesn't make a great deal of difference to me.

You don't have to sacrifice a decent interest rate to get good service. Smile & First Direct offer both, though I prefer Smile.

I have a first direct account for housekeeping (like their text banking) and a joint abbey account for bills (quite happy with them too. Both offer online banking and now will both download to Microsoft Money which is a plus for me. Basically, we get paid and spend it so interest rates are less important than convenience. Bothe have ATMs round the corner too.

Anyway, when I walked past Abbey yesterday, I noticed a poster offering £40 for opening a current account. No doubt t&c apply ...
  • I'd have to say that I am completely ruthless when it comes to changing bank accounts. They get away with one mistake or muck-up, or poor service. They don't get away with the next one, it's 'goodbye and goodnight' - doesn't matter how far apart it is. I'd been with Bank of Scotland for a few years, but they ended up being horrific - their customer service standards were shocking (looks like that's spreading into Halifax now too!!)

I'm now with Smile and have been since the start of the year. They don't contact you if you don't want them to, when you phone them they don't try and sell you anything, and they deal with email queries really quickly and without all the usual faffing about you get with banks. I really can't fault them, and I recommend them to anyone who's thinking about changing to a new bank.

And they have an ethical policy too!

I put in to practice a lot I have learned both from this site and 'The Money Diet' book.

I've changed just about everything, Insurances, Credit Cards, Savings Account etc, etc. This site and its contributors have saved me money.

The one sticking point I've got is.....................changing my Bank Accoubt.
    I'm with Barclays.
Was one of their Premier Bank customers, but told them to get lost as I would not pay £12 a month. Despite freebies it was just not worth it, so reverted back to a branch account.

Yes I can hear you all say, lousy rates on current account and ridiculous overdraft rates.

But I can pick up a phone, talk to a human in my part of the world, see a Manager (if I need to) and get decisions quickly.

I am comfortable with this. So why should I change?????????

    ??? ??? ??? ???

I'm with Smile; I too can pick up a phone and speak to someone in this part of the world and I haven't needed to see a bank manager for over 20 years. I get great service and great rates.

How many more reasons do you need?

    hi

JUST CHANGED BANKS TO IF AND I WAS TOLD THE FOLLOWING TO GET A HIGHER IN CREDIT RATE ON MY CURRENT ACCOUNT.

1)OPEN A CURRENT ACCOUNT AND GET 2.75% GROSS.
2)OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT WITH £10.00 AND GET THE SAME SAVINGS RATE OF 4.65% ON THE CURRENT ACCOUNT.
