GRRRRRRRRR - Local computer shop

Options
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

The number 9 key pinged off my laptop. One of the clips on it has broken. I did fix it back on again, but it wasn't stable and came off.

I have just been upto the post office and popped into my local computer shop. The geezer behind the counter actually did an intake of breath when I asked him whether he had any of those keys.

Then he had the temerity to say that it would be £35 to replace the keyboard, because replacing a key is a hard job!!!

Finally, when he saw I wasn't biting, he said that he might be able to replace the key with a second hand one from another keyboard, and that the key would be pennies, but he wouldn't let me have it unless I paid a tenner for him to put it on!!!

And even then "It might never go on again" so he'd then I'd have to replace the keyboard.

No doubt he would take my computer away, replace all the insides with a bag of rubbish and charge me for the pleasure

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

My husband has lost a few keys over the years, he buys them individually from ebay and fits them himself, I think with postage he pays around £3.00.

Moulded plastic clips are useless (everyone knows they are) and it prob is not worth his time to replace one key.

Either get a key off e-bay or just live with the 9 key being MIA

He runs a shop, do you expect him to fix it for free?

Having done this job myself a few times it's best practice to remove the keyboard to replace the key anyway. It's also very fiddly and typcially takes 20 mins or more.
£10 plus parts for doing the repair seems reasonable to me. Would cost you more to have someone change the oil in your car and thats less technical.
