Cheap flights within the US (Atlanta - Chicago)

Hi everyone, 
I'm flying to the US on Wednesday, going to Atlanta, flights and accommodation booked ages ago. Unfortunately I've just found out that I'll have to fly from Atlanta to Chicago - just a one day trip to meet someone who lives 50 miles away from Chicago. What are the chances of me finding cheap tickets for flights within the US now? Should I book now (if so what website should I use?
), or should I wait until I get there and then book at the airport? And what means of transport should I use to get from Chicago Airport to my final destination?
As you can see I am very confused and don't know what to do on such short notice. Your help is much needed and appreciated. Thanks a lot. :beer:
