Renault Clio

My partner is thinking about buying a second hand Renault Clio, its a 1.6 sport 3d RXE model i believe. Its hopefully going to be via an interest free daddy loan!!

Im not a lover of french cars, but have to say this seems to be a really good drive, pretty nippy, good road holding etc....and its also pretty cheap at £2600.00 with only 61,000 miles...her dad ( who is a car dealer) has to get rid of it soon, for the space!

Has anyone here got one of these or similar? What are they like?

Cheers

  • How old is it?

I've just bought my third Clio and can concur with the comments about how they drive, hold the road, etc.
My first 2 were first generation Clio's and both lived well beyond 120k miles. (Wheel bearings and starter motors seemed to be a common failure.)
I've just bought a 2002 1.5 diesel. Very comfortable, good to drive - you would never guess it was diesel as it accelerates very well and there is little noise.

As with any car, if you know it's service history and something about how it was used (motorway miles, boy racer, or whatever) this should help with you judgement.

    Hope this is of help.

I had a Clio a couple of years ago, I LOVED it!!! :j

My mechanic told me that they were the best little cars on the road as they stick to the road, are great on petrol, always passed the MOT and very rarely had anything wrong with them.

    Love 'em :)
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • Renault are not the most reliable of cars, however the lack of reliability is overstated. If you want to have a fright or 300 then go the parkers page at the link below and click on 'all Clio problems and faults', make help you decide. or at least be aware of common failures.

Remember your other halfs dad is a salesman not a mechanic so he may not be aware of all the faults on this car even if he is genuine.

    hope this helps.
  • Just noticed its done 63k miles, has the cambelt been changed? Has the catalytic converter been changed? I would have thought these will need doing soon, if not i would reduce the price by £200 for EACH of the above items.
