No, i would use a dog carer who cares for dogs in their own homes. The longest would be two weeks max for me.

that an interesting thought, do you have any idea of how much they charge?

Yes - but only because the dog rescue I'm involved with also uses the same kennels to board dogs who can't go into foster care for whatever reason, so I know the level of care they take of the dogs, the routines, etc, plus people could check on my dogs regularly too.

That said, I wouldn't leave them for more than a fortnight, and I'd still rather leave them with a reliable family member - kennels would be a last resort.

Yes I'd use a kennels - the longest up till now is 3 and a bit weeks while I was on holiday. Doggins didn't seem to miss me in the slightest - food and a bit of fuss and she's happy wherever. I wouldn't have left her that long as a rule, but I've been using the kennels for years, and she'd had lots of shorter stays with no problems, and my family lacks reliable family members!

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

My hubbie's sister owns and runs a boarding kennel and cattery and has had some dogs stay long term up to six months while their owners have had to work abroad or go into hospital long term.
The dogs she boards all seem happy and content, but I do realise that not all kennels are good and you need to find one both you and your dog will be happy with.

There is a dog sitting service local to me who charge £16 a day and that includes two walks, open and shut curtains, giving them their food.

I use kennels often - too often probably as I travel a lot for work. My boy seems really happy there. I think they are charging around £10 an hour now.

Reluctantly, but yes. No more than a fortnight, I miss em too much.

The kennels I used last year seemed to take good care of my dogs. They charged £18 a day (my dogs shared one kennel). That didn't include food but they had two walks a day.

Me and my partner run a dog walking and pet sitting company, and we offer a home boarding service which your dogs would come to use and sleep in our house for the duration of the stay.
They live inside the house with use and would do anything that they would normally do at home.
We are fully booked most of the year as lots of people like using us instead of being stuck in a kennel for all that time.
We take them out twice a day and they have lots of fuss and attention, I know a lot of people offer this service and normally about the same price as a kennel would be.
The only thing people may ask is that your own food and any toys and bed they like to stay on.
Maybe worth a thought. If you want to pm and ask anything else I'll try and help you some more of who might do such a service in your area?
