I fancied going to Liverpool to see the Williamson Tunnels (http://www.williamsontunnels.co.uk), a load of random tunnels built underground in the 1800's, leading nowhere and with no particular purpose. I don't know how appealing that would be to 5 - 10 year old but I'm a big kid at heart.
The tunnel site led me on to this which looks a good idea... Livesmart Ticket Liverpool Discounts Offers (http://www.livesmart.tv/ticketforliverpool/), free travel in city centre, every must see attraction, etc. Never used it but it sounds a good idea.
Have fun !0 -
Been to Liverpool many times and never heard of this attraction - but it appeals to me... I know it will appeal to my son (3 in September) because he loves tunnels
so sure about SWMBO though lol There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Hahaha, I thought I was up to speed on most internet acronyms but SWMBO had me stumped. 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' (thank you Google) always reminds me of Arthur Dailey. Thanks.
I read about the tunnels in 'Bo**ocks to Alton Towers, alternative days out in Britain'. It's the best travel book I have ever read, maybe the only one. Pencil factories, lawn mower museums, bee centres, it's great. And if you're son is into tunnels, a big nuclear bunker ? (not the Scottish one, another one !)
See if you can get it at the library because it's only out in hardback at £12.0 -
the science and industry museam in manchester, think its free to get in and has lots of interactive stuff to do
knowsley safari park is very close to liverpool - need a car though.
http://www.internationalinn.co.uk/ never stayed here its pretty central , looks clean and basic, the website says £15 per night depends how many of there you are it may still be cheaper to get a family room in travel inn.
if you are doing manchester and liverpool you may want to stay in Warrington - half way betweenReady to Go Go!0 -

Easy for passing some hour or so, all or mostly free, family friendly and refreshments and toilet facilities generally available.0 -
What about the Mersey Ferry? Mine love going on boats whatever the size. You may have to put up with numerous repeats of "Ferry across the Mersey" by Gerry and the Pacemakers though!Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0
