Road Tax HELP- Not recieved insurance cert!

Ok so I had to wait until the last minute (Wed to be precice) before I renewed my insurance because I had to wait for a cheque to clear, the usual self-employed nightmare! Anyway, I got my insurance with Privilage as they were the cheapest. I explained I needed my certificate FAST as my road tax is due and asked if I could pay extra for next day delivery (my last insurance company provided this service) however they said no, but it would be dispatched 1st Class. OK I thought, this will be tight, and proceeded to bite my nails.

Postie has just been... guess what.... NO insurance certificate... yes yes it's all my fault for being skint :o but WHAT DO I DO NOW? Can I get backdated road tax from the post office? I can't find the info anywhere.
Or should I renew online today? Will that work?
The cert should arrive any day, I was insured FROM Thursday so at least I DO have insurance.

Please help :o

In Northern Ireland if you get your car tax online, they can search all insurance policies, so you do not need to provide an insurance certificate. Not sure if this applies to rest of UK?

You should be able to buy online today - but be aware that the disk can take some time to arrive
  • Thank you! I have done it online, I guess I'm going to stay at home until it arrives :( or get the bus of course.
Should have done that days ago, ho hum.
I have learned my lesson :o

TBH if you tax it online, you should be OK. ANPR database will show it as taxed and you'd have to be having one hell of a bad day to be prosecuted for failing to display.

Officially it's an offence not to display but I think they would have to feeling VERY mean if you had proof that you had paid.
Personally I would drive with a printout.
However I just want to be clear that technically it's an offence not to display, so obviousy at your own risk (I'd do it though).

I have met a number of traffio policemen on "bike safe" events and they really aren't out to get people like you.
Of course there is always the chance you good meet one that's got out of the wrong side of bed.

Go online and buy it. Just need your V5 document. You need the cover note if your buying one from the post office.
