Ordered our car tax-2 lots- (both expired today )on the 9th of this month. When it didnt arrive I rang DVLA and they offered to send a duplicate. One lot was received, the other didn't turn up again. WHat's the most likely explaination?Am just about to ring them but wanted your views first.never had problems with post before btw

Mine hasn't turned up either. Was just searching for the thread that had the website address to see how long it should take.

Mine was charged to my credit card 11/03/08. Might leave it a couple of days more ? I'm nervous driving an untaxed car even though I've paid and it's ''in the post ''.

I just rang them. They are saying it is Royal Mail.
They said either I could collect it from my nearesr dvla office which is miles away,or send it out. I have asked for a more secure method this time-they have suggested recorded delivery..hmm..I shall wait and see..Not worried if I get stopped as i have the email as proof i paid.

You might have paid but driving without displaying a tax disk is an absolute offence and regardless you could still get a fine if caught.

I would put the pressure on DVLA here as the only correct action on your part is to not drive the car until you are in possesion of a valid tax disk.

I queried this with DVLA with the "as i have paid and I have the email,I shouldn't have a problem"and they agreed. If i were stopped for failing to display ,in these cirumstances ,do you think they would carry the prosecution through? IF so,why didn't dvla tell me that?

you would have to convince the police officer that would be issuing you with the fine.
he would be well within his rights to do so,and most probably would.
or the road side camera that has taken a picture of your car with invalid or no road tax in the windscreen.
i understand it is a pain in the a**e,but you should be aware of the risk.

Yes,but it is still an offence.
if all we had to do was pay for our road tax and not have to fix the disc to our windscreens then we all would.
we shouldnt need to display a tax disc, but we do.
i wouldnt expect a police officer to let me off even although i had paid for it.(would be nice though).

well if they have access to the computer they could contact them and confirm i had paid and had twice reported it not being received. If its any comfort to anyone else who finds themselves in this position the local police today told me as long as i had paid that was all that counted, which was reassuring.
