OP, how did the thief lock the car if you have both sets of keys?
I would imagine by pushing down the snub on the inside of the door and closing it behind them? its central locking so it's easy done, millions of people have locked themselves out of their cars this way
But, thanks for your replies, some helpful other maybe as not, in particular why am i complaining that i cant access my vehicle to get my personal belongings for one!
the car is stored approx 100 miles away from me, not far from where it was stolen/recovered as i was on a day out / overnight stay in Edinburgh with a friend on Easter Frid
I/we CANNOT go to the place it is stored mainly because it would take either of us almost 5 hours to get there by bus/train - the holding yard will only be open within office hours & we too work so cannot go withint these times - we are struggling financialy at the best of times, made even worse by the fact we have no car to get my husband to work (affordably!)
Should the insurance company not have moved it to a holding yard nearer to where we live?
Yes i have cover for personal belongings, £250 to be exact - the items in the car come to over £300 - my digital camera & new outfit for my nieces christening on Easter Sunday that i had bought, along with other bits and bobs - so the cover isnt much compensation as we will still be out nearly £100 should my items not be there - at this point i dont hold out any hope of them being returned
My Insurance company still havent taken note of the items within the car nor to they seem particualry interested
I did not ask for my car to be stolen, its just one of those things and would have hoped for better service on the smaller matters
AND we are still waiting to hear if our car is considered viable for repair!
WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG TO BE EXAMINED?0 -
I'm sorry, mac66p, but I think you are being a bit irrational here.
For example, you are spending £20 a day on taxis but think £100 a month is too much to pay to insure a free loan car. Eh? That would save you £300 a month. Surely you wouldn't need to add the other car as an additional car anyway, but as a substitute, as your original car is in a secure storage yard.
If the car is driveable, it's not reasonable for the insurers to insist on it being kept in a yard for inspection for a silly length of time.
I don't know why you are going on about the contents either. Do you realistically think that the thief won't have bothered opening the boot and will have left lots of goodies in there?0 -
"I/we CANNOT go to the place it is stored mainly because it would take either of us almost 5 hours to get there by bus/train"
"we have been told that any personal belongings will be sent to us - I’m sorry but I want to be able to go and collect items myself!"
Seems like the insurers cant win, you dont want them to send you the items as you want to go and collect yourself but then you say you cant get there! They are under no obligation to move the vehicle closer to you, they will simply have moved it to their nearest recovery yard from where the vehicle was found.
Like MarkyMark, I dont think there is much hope of the items being in the vehicle anyway. Have you not arranged to post a key to the recovery yard and asked them to check just in case?
Have you actually phoned and checked the assessor has been out? Are they still awaiting on a key to be sent to avoid further damage to the vehicle?0 -
DOC does only cover TPO (in my defence, it's not normally my field!) either way, driving the friends car on DOC might still be a goer for the OP, after all - you're not *that* likely to have a theft within such a small prescribed space of time, and even much much less likely to require fire cover.
Be careful, DOC cover can be restricted to emergency situations only these days, and I don't think this would qualify as an emergency. Check with the insurer if in any doubt and planning to use DOC cover.0
