who is liable for credit card on death of main card holder

A very good friend's wife died 6 months ago. She had a credit card where she was the main card holder, he was added as an additional user. He contacted them to inform them of her death and they are now want to transfer the debt into his name. Could someone please advise where he stands in this situation? Unfortunately, he hasn't got that much money and is very worried about this situation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I told him to forward any requests for payment to whoever is dealing with her probate, I don't think she made a will. Is the the correct procedure to follow?

DON'T agree to transfer the debt or they will be lumbered with it. Let however is dealing with the estate make all the decisions.
