We have not had an elec bill for 7 months (new build) after many rows and pestering a call from the MD of british gas said it was all sorted..bill in post etc..last week and still not got..anyway he has put our monthly payments up to £55 instead of £30 as we have to pay the old bill off and current..am i right in thinking that we cannot chnage to another provider until this is clear even though i would pay them if we changed?or should i pay a big chunk off and get rid?
Hate B-gas and can't wait to get shot tbh.
Thanks

Phone up, find out what you owe, pay it off, and move to someone with a better track record of customer service.
You can initiate the move now but you will have to pay before transfer.

You don't have an outstanding balance, as they have never sent you a bill to pay.

If you have never had a bill, then they should allow you to tansfer.

You will then get a bill based on the closing reading you give to your new supplier.

If they try and block your transfer you will have grounds for a big time complaint (with an opportunity to claim compensation for any extra charges you have to pay them compared with the reduced cost you should have been getting from the new supplier).

You can carry a debt with you, the limit changes but as a rule of thumb it's £100.
