Using credit card as interest free loan?

Can someone explain how this is done? I am going to be taking out a large loan to clear another debt and if I can have a proportion of this interest free that would be great. I have come accross threads explaining how this is done a while ago but can't seem to find anything now. I recall it having something to do with a Virgin credit card and 0% for 9 months?

I do not have the loan yet and I don't have any credit card balances to transfer - so how do I effectively take a loan from the credit card? will I also have to pay this loan off within 9 months?

I know this has been asked before but if someone could point me to the thread or provide a quick step by step guide I would be grateful.
