This made me laugh - I live in Wales (And Cardiff Council tax is shocking!) Wales has a bi-lingual policy throughout, so I can see where part of my money goes - to producing and printing EVERY piece of news/literature/c**p they send me TWICE - once in English, once in Welsh.
I would like to be able to choose which language to receive the mailings in, but then they'd probably just need more bureaucrats!Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today.

You can do something about it. Move to a smaller house.
The OP doesn't understand why it's based on the value of your property and not your income, has the OP forgotten that we pay income tax? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

Obviously every council is different but the local authority I work for does not have Internet access available to it's staff. Oh and the two hour lunches are again flexi time. I think their assertions that they do very little are probably boasting because they know it winds you up.
I agree that CT is too high though.
Flexi time, as in they're flexible to work as little as possible! They're not winding me up, as I actually find it quite amusing how little they have to do for their cushy salaries!! I'm not saying ALL council workers are like this, but I do wish the council would attempt to regulate how much work their employees actually do!
At the end of the day, we pay an astronomical amount of council tax, and we get very little in return.
Even one of the major commuter dual carriage ways near me has had an enormous pot hole in for months, and they've done the most pathetic job to repair it, which I don't know why they even bothered! I could have done it better myself!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I don't understand why it's based on the value of your house, why not your income?
I don't really see why income should determine how much council tax you pay.
How about basing it on the services you use?
So me (as a childless person) wouldn't pay towards schools.....whereas someone who has a dozen kids would pay a hefty amount.
Tongue-in-cheek reply, guys.:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
When my council tax bill came through a leaflet came as well explaining where one's council tax was spent. Did anyone else receive one?
Does anyone else think that this post will be duplicated in 12 months time?.....0 -

My council waste no time in sending both my house tax bill (£1300) AND my business rates bill (£900), though they post them in separate envelopes and include the same leaflets in both to ensure more money goes on postage etc.
However they've not been able to apply the student discount for my wife who is in full time study. In fact she'll be graduating this May/June so by the time the apply the discount she'll have done her entire course!
They have however acknowledged receipt of the discount application 6 months ago and are now asking us to submit again as they have no record of the documents....0
