Buying a car alone

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new car soon, I know the model spec etc that I want but I'm buying it without the input or help from anyone else  , this is because no one I know knows anything about or is interested in cars and when I mention anything to anyone I just get "yeah yeah, whatever you think".
Anyway, I don't have the transport to visit several dealers but the online brokers look good and it looks like all the leg work is done is you.
My previous cars have been bought from family and friends so I knew exactly what I was getting.
Would be this be the way to go for someone like me?
I like the look of Dealdrivers, has anyone dealt with them?
Thanks for any input.

TBH, I'd be wary of buying any car I can't see. The online brokers don't really do any legwork other than making sure it looks nice. They buy from auctions the same as many other dealers do and there's no guarantee as to the mechanical state of the vehicle which is something you can ascertain to a point by an RAC/AA inspection which is something you don't get a chance to do with these online places.

Make sure you read every bit of documentation it's possible to do in respect to warranties and right to return/refuse the vehicle.

    Happy hunting.
  • Conor, please understand not all brokers work the same way. What you have described is a re-seller of used or registered cars. We don't do any of that!

A few of us simply act as quoting agents between dealer and customer....people buying through us simply get put into direct contact with a normal main dealer to buy their car...all as normal. The driver simply uses us as the introducer to get the level of discount they want, just like an insurance or mrtgage broker pointing you in the direction of the best deal for those services, we do it for new cars.

No mysteries, no fees, and no risk.

Conor, Dealdrivers (as well as other Brokers, Discounters and Importers) have actually been recommended by Martin Lewis himself. Please don't tar everyone with the same brush!

Spen08, please look at Martins suggestions for buying a car and getting a good deal) here:

I'm sure you can trust what Martin himself recommends. Good luck and let us know how you're getting on

  • Basically to cut it short, I am an ex car salesman and worked for a few years at the biggest mainstream dealership in the UK. I pretty much know every little trick and scam there is in order to con you out of your hard earned cash! I spent the last two years writing a comprehensive guide which you can also download at www.killthesalesman.com but in the meantime feel free to ask me anything about how they will try to squeeze every last penny out of you!
