Do you think BT will waive my cancellation charge?

I have just left my rented house after only 7 months. I had a BT line, of which I only ever paid BT line rental. I received broadband and calls from Virgin. As I am sure you can guess, they want £55 from me for early cancellation (5 months).

I know that you don't need to cancel your contract if you move house as you can move it to the new address. However, I am moving in with somebody who already has a BT line (both calls and broadband) so I can't take "my" BT account with me.

I find the fact that I have to agree to a 12 month BT contract extremely unfair and frustrating, especially since I lived in a rented house, where I could be evicted with only a month notice. That is beside the point, however.

Given my situation, how likely is it that BT will agree to waive my cancellation charge? And I don't even know where to start with the £105 that Virgin want for early disconnection.

Thanks,
Chris
