Haven Devon Cliffs; Worth upgrading caravan?

scope

I have booked a trip to Havens holiday park, Devon Cliffs in may through NoTWs £9.50 offer.. I have been sent a letter saying we are staying in a "standard" 2bed caravan with options to upgrade... What has others done? Is it worth upgrading in advanced? Or do you get better offers to upgrade when you arrive (provided it is not full)? What is the "standard" caravan like?

my advice is get there, and see, we have had a few sun hols and its pick and mix, sometimes we have had fantastic caravans, and then other times we have had grotty ones, but ive always been given the option to upgrade when we get there. but other people may have had different experiences.:A :j0

Hi,
We spent the Easter weekend at Haven Presthaven Sands in Wales in a 2 bed Superior (as they classed it) caravan. It was possibly the nicest caravan I've ever stayed in! Booked online as a last minute bargain...
During check in however I had the misfortune to have to queue with an 'interesting' selection of the public (a nice way to put it) who were all complaining about the state of there caravans. From what I overheard they all had basic/bronze/entry level accommodation so I personally would get the upgrade to the best you can get.
I hope this helps

Its always pot luck with the quality of caravans...
Paying to upgrade does not guarantee you a better caravan..
You could be put in a very old superior graded caravan which would be worse than a newer standard van. If you do upgrade then make sure you are upgrading to a 12ft wide model ( so at least it will be slightly bigger).
Personally i would stick with the standard. It defeats the object of the £9.50 holiday if you are going to pay expensive upgrade costs. None of Haven's caravans are really old as they don't allow old caravans on their sites ( they shift them off so they can sell a new overpriced caravan on the pitch)0 -
Hi, when are you going?
I am going next Monday 7th to Devon Cliffs and we have upgraded to the next level up becuase you are allowed pets in the standrad accomodation, so thougt it would be best for us.
Hope you have a great time! Never been, but it looks fab there I can't wait0 -

We are going in the beginning of May, should be good, provided the weather is OK.
I would be grateful if you could report back, especially what the caravan is like. Is that the £1.50 per person/night upgrade to Luxury?
Have a nice time.0 -
Does anybody know how much the entertainment passed are if purchased on site? They are £8 in advance, hopefully the same on site.0

Well I am back from Devon Cliffs and apart from the brilliant weather I am well pleased, best £9.50 I have ever spent I think.
On Arrival instead of the 2 bed standard caravan I was expecting we got a 3 bed, brand new top of the range caravan (Prestige).
I was impressed by the facilities, beach, etc, and will go back, especially if I manage to bag another £9.50 deal. :-D
And just to answer my own question re the entertainment passes - they are £8 on site aswell, we did however do a fair bit of travelling and didnt buy one, just paid £4 to enter the swimming pool on the last day.0 -

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, I am off there in 5 weeks and I can't wait. Any tips on what to do/avoid?

We had a superior plus caravan at Devon cliffs last week - just got back. It was dirty (none of the surfaces had been cleaned) and had a strong smell of gas. The beds were tiny and uncomfortable. Didn't feel it was value for money. We booked through Haven not the sun and got a 50% off deal - still felt it wasn't good value though for our caravan
The swimming pool is very good and the learn to swim lessons were good value.
My tips are shop at Tesco (not on site). It's about 2 mins drive away towards Buddleigh Salterton,
Take toilet roll (as it's not provided), and something decent to chop with (as the knives provided were awful).
Sidmouth and Buddleigh salterton are worth a visit, and Paighton zoo (about 45 mins drive) is excellent0
