**Continental breakdown cover: single trip**

  • Having broken down in southern France last year, en route to Spain, in our ancient Citroen Xsara, all I can say is check the small print of any policy before you buy. Luckily, I had taken out a policy with Green Flag, and they provided us with excellent service and level of cover. I had not actually read the cover in depth, but boy were we relieved when we realised we would not have to pay for anything - the fee for towing off the French motorway alone was nearly 300 Euros! Add to that the cost of hotel, car hire for a fortnight (our car was deemed dead), and all sorts of other sundry items, and I reckon that the initial £50 odd I paid for the policy was worth every penny and more. Now looking for this years trip (newer car, but never tempt fate!), and some of the policies do not cover very much at all. Hope this helps!

I've have found a number of insurance providers offering insurance cover with assistance provided by either Allianz (Mondial) or Green Flag. I've also come across Eversure Breakdown Cover who a backed by Call Assist. First two seem decent European only products whereas Eversure is more a UK product with European add-on cover. For Europe it's important to make sure to check out the detail of cover. e.g. vehicle repatriation (i.e. cannot repair and need to tow the vehicle home) . Green Flag and Eversure is vehicle value whereas Allianz is £750... this is important as £750 might get you back from Calais, but that will be no good to you in Southern Italy! I read it costs £2k to get a vehicle back from Spain / Italy. I'm taking a caravn so Voyager product works best for me, as they will repair/recover the caravan and others won't...which is not very helpful if you halfway down to the south of france.

    Why not try QuotelineDirect ?
They do full UK & European cover for £59 ! for a full year !
Been with them for 3 years now with 1 call out which was dealt with quickly and NO increase in policy cover costs !
    Give them a try !
