Car Insurance Cancellation .... ?

My son needs to borrow my car for two weeks. However, none of the temporary car insurance companies provide cover for under 21s. Also, I cannot have him added to my policy temporarily because my insurance company won't allow it!
If he takes out his own insurance policy, I noticed that most have a 14-day cancellation period? I know some might consider it "wrong" but could this work? Could we use the cover for 14 days and then cancel? Even if we still had to pay one-months premium it would be worthwhile.
Any ideas? Thanks!

It's not his car. Most insurers won't allow you to insure a car which doesn't belong to either you or your spouse.0

Swinton will do it. That's who we would be going with if we did this.MarkyMarkD wrote: »It's not his car. Most insurers won't allow you to insure a car which doesn't belong to either you or your spouse.0 -
A few things to consider, most insurers cancel based on short term rates in the first year of insurance so if you go over the 14 days you may get charged 35% of the annual premium plus the admin fee for cancellation.
Secondly, if the car is already insured it shouldn't be insured again under a separate policy.
Like MarkyMarkD has said, as he is not the owner and has no financial interest in the car then most insurers wont let him insure it in his own name.
Lastly, if you cancel within the 14 day period and the insurer classes the policy as NTU, they wont provide proof of cover if he later gets a speeding offence or a claim against him. This depends on how the insurers cancel the policy though.
Can he not just hire a car for the 2 weeks he needs one?0 -
What's the car you're trying to cover him on?0

Presumably hiring a car is also an issue because of his age.0

Oh dear, that might be a problem then. Thanks for the heads up.DaisyFlower wrote:Secondly, if the car is already insured it shouldn't be insured again under a separate policy.
Nowhere will rent him a car because of his age (19).DaisyFlower wrote: »Can he not just hire a car for the 2 weeks he needs one?0 -

Hmmm think that's why you're struggling. Think this one may be a lost cause!0
