My house is located in the North West. I received a quote of £6300 to remove existing bathroom fittings, wall tiles etc. and to fit/install a new bathroom (3m x 2m) comprising free standing bath, sink, pan, new shower enclosure, shower pump, heated towel radiator, porcelain floor tiles, timber clad wall to dado height (with hidden cistern and pan handle and bath taps built in), plaster & skim all walls & ceiling, fit electric downlights.
Note: Bathroom suite and floor tiles supplied by me.
Costs:-
Plasterwork, ceiling & walls inc material £650.00
Electrical certification £150.00
Skip hire £70.00
Labour £4500.00
Materials:
Soil pipe connections, surry or essex flange,
Isolator & gate valves, waste pipe , traps, copper pipe,
Stud wall timber, wood panelling, shower plinth materials,
Window cill, sub floor, skirt, architrave, tile cement, grout,
Floor cement, grout, extractor, silicon, etc. £950.00
Total:- £6320.00
The Builder, who was recommended by the bathroom supplier said that the job will take 3 weeks (15 days?) with 2 men on site working each day.
Can anyone please advise if this quote seems fair?

Good evening: On the face of it sounds like London prices:eek: Get more quotes. You can find a qualified/experienced plumber on the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering website https://www.iphe.org.uk ...many IPHE members (including my OH) are multitrade.

Thanks Canucklehead,
I take it you mean by "London prices" that the quote sounds high? Can you advise what you think would be a reasonable price?
My main thoughts are:
Is 3 weeks about right to do the work?
Do you think the £4500 labour is based on 2 men @ £150day for 15 days?
What do the 2 men do when the plasterer is working (probably for 2 days)?
Are the material costs about right?
Thanks again, any advice would help.0 -
Good morning: Yes...London prices. My OH has completed many bathrooms over the years similar in scope to yours but he flies solo therefore doesn't have to work around someone else's timelines (eg. he can certify his own electrical work). In regard to labour rates, I don't know what the daily rate would be in your neck of the woods (hopefully some MSErs in the NW will jump in here). It would be, again based on the info presented by you, a 3 week job for him. Material costs appear to be on the high side.

Hi
I fit a lot of bathrooms and i think that price is way too high. I agree that there is possibly up to 3 weeks work but that is for one person. No way would it take 2 guys that long to do it. I work alone and could do it in 3 weeks max. I work alone because 1) i dont have to rely on others and 2) you cannot physically get 2 guys working efficiantly in a room that size.
Is your plaster work just skimming onto existing walls and ceiling? If so, this should cost no more than £200 as its only half a days work in a room that size or a nice lazy Friday!
I would suggest that the labour cost could easily be cut in half to £2250, the plastering cut to £200, listed materials a maximum of £500. A qualified electrician should do the job for that price and supply certification as a matter of course.
Max price for your job about £3k to £3.5k

Thank you booty40uk for your very clear advice. I'll obtain some other quotes and hopefully they will be more in line with your thoughts (and mine!).:T0

....What do the 2 men do when the plasterer is working......
Seriously, I agree with booty. Sounds more like 3 weeks work for one person and the costs he suggests are more realistic, though I'm not sure I'd cut the materials to as low as £500.A house isn't a home without a cat.

I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Average price for a qualified plumber in the NW is £150 per day labour only.
I agree with others, price is high get more quotes.0 -
I'm getting a bathroom done. Got most of my fitting of ebay. I'm buying the tiles + fittings. Aqua paneling a wall. Removing the bath & installing new shower tray, sink, crapper, cistern and taps (no bath) tiling the whole bathroom (18sq metres) and boxing in pipework with removable panels. Quote for £2300 in london - I thought that was expensive.
2nd quote tomorrow from someone else.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -
I'm struggling to even get quotes!
Started this game over a month ago and I got my first (of 4) quote yesterday.
Just a small bathroom with vanity unit/wc from an ebay shop and a wetroom or offset quadrant and as good a shower as my combi boiler will allow. Tiles floor to ceiling. Replace and relocate radiator/towel warmer.
Why is it so hard??
oh yeah, the quote is £7,500, in Lincolnshire.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

There's a big difference between a wet room and an offset quadrant shower tray. Which is in the quote?A house isn't a home without a cat.
