have spoken to a few people who have been told that they are being called by the energyhelpline, offering an independent price comparison. surprisingly enough, they have all been told that scottish power are the cheapest, but when they check the website, it turns out that scottish power are not the cheapest.

can anybody tell me if it is the energyhelpline doing this or whether it is just another simply energy? i have tried calling the number online, but unfortunately it is constantly busy.

as Martin recommends this site i thought he may know.

Sometimes it seems a good idea to put a post like this direct to martins email address or PM.

It could be read as though you were throwing mud at martin, although having read you previous remarks i should realise that you would never make such comments ???

  • Interesting that you should post this today.

I switched to powergen from npower on 20 Oct using energyhelpline - as recommended by MSE.

Far from being cheaper Powergen want d/deb of £112 pcm rather than £81 which was my previous d/deb.

    I thought £81 was excessive for my 3 bed terrace but £112?? ??? >:(

Not sure what to do now. The cooling off period ends this Weds.

    Any suggestions?

Ok first of all im not quite sure what happened in the first thread and have asked EHL to have a look at it

Some thoughts about what's happening here though

    1. Don't confuse DD with cost: The DD is how much it wants you to pay - this doesn't mean it is how much you will actually pay. If you believe it is too high, ask it to lower the amount as you think it is overestimating. Something they do. Take regular meter readings.

    2. All prices are up: Remember prices have increased across the board, for speed let me copy a note from an recent Martin's Money Tips:l

WARNING: SWITCHING ENERGY PROVIDER WON’T CUT YOUR BILL! Don’t worry, last week’s ‘switch now’ call still stands. This is to pre-empt queries as your bills won’t necessarily drop compared to last winter – all companies have increased prices by up to 20%. Switching effectively stops this price rise, a huge saving.

Hopefully this is what is going on here.

If not please come back to me

  • Thank you.

Woby_Tide pointed out on another thread tonight that Powergen are not good at estimates and will re- estimate if you ask them too - which I have done.

I had taken into account that I might not save the £183 energyhelpline predicted but had expected to "stand still" and not increase.

I still think I'm paying way over the odds tho and that street lamp is on my bill!

Its probably a differnt post but how do you go about challenging usage??
