Free program that edits microsoft publisher files?

i've got openoffice, but this doesn't contain an editor for publisher.

Does anybody know of a program that does do this for free?

There won't be AFAIK. The largest free one Scribus doesn't support these proprietary formats because of the reverse engineering would be too complex and possibly not legal.

If you just want a free alternative to publisher, something like scribus may be a good option but it isn't compatible with MS Publisher files.

  • Bad news, I'm afraid. I use Scribus (both Windows and Linux versions) and needed a Publisher converter too.

I looked high and low, but couldn't find a converter. I thought I was on to a winner when I installed a generic Postscript printer driver and printed to a file. From here, I could import the PostScript file into Scribus.

It looked perfect, but every text character was set as a vector object (rather than text) which made any text editing impossible.

Your best bet is to (from Publisher) save as RTF or Word (you'll lose the layout and graphics) and import and re-paginate in your chosen application.

    A pain.

Scribus is great, by the way.
