Need to buy a used car but need to sell again in 2 years - help

all advice gratefully received - need to buy a new well used car which takes 3 proper car seats in the back - (don't like booster cushions).
However only need it for 2 years as we are then emigrating.
What kind of deal would be good for us - would leasing suit?
As I need something fairly big like a Honda FRV or a Picasso or a C-Max they're not going to be that cheap yet used are they - seems such a waste as would probably have to sell in a hurry just before we emigrate.
Anybody got any clever ideas?
Thanks in advance
Macca

    Mazda Bongo Friendee Free Top?

Import with 8 seats and a top that lifts for camping.

for and idea look at www.bongofury.co.uk

We have one and hope depreciation will be low - we have had ours two years and, so far, have lost nothing in capital.

Looked at C Max and seems like a possibility.

As for budget well £5-7K would be good or £250 per month - have a car to part ex but wouldprobably only get £1K.

I suppose what I'm saying is that the 2 cars we have work perfectly well and obviously we are in the process of "driving them into the ground" - they have both got over 100,000 miles on the clock. Just seems a change to ditch them now when they would probably last the next 2 years, however needs must and all that.

Have just had a barinwave though the only reason my E class old style merc can't fit 3 seats in is because the middle seat hasn't got a 3 point seatbelt yet I'm sure the car is wide enough - can this be added does anyone know?

    Many thanks again

OP: if you're buying with a view to re-sale, then you need to buy where the money goes now -- because most likely, that's where the money will still be going in two years' time.

You also need to ask yourself the questions that'll most likely be asked in two years' time by the 'average' buyer.

As rising fuel costs plus the political correctness clothing this government's attempts to tax, tax, tax whatever and wherever it can aren't going to change for the better, the best-buy car now needs to be either a cheapo Far East model (Kia, with its 7-year manufacturer backed warranty, comes to mind: the cars are pretty darn good, too) or a main-stream 'UK' model which may not have been built in the UK at all but folks nevertheless think it has.

Stay away from Renault, Peugeot, Citroen then (though don't rule out VW-owned Skoda.)

Ford or Vauxhall, then, are likely to remain a safe bet. Service costs are (relatively) low, spares readily available, costs (relatively) low. Look for vehicles less than 1599cc if petrol as that's the most popular sales bracket; look for vehicles with "combined" mpg of 40, as that's also becoming a buyer requirement.

Be careful with CO2 emission bandings: you do not want to wind up with any vehicle which this Government has decided to act against via the Road Tax in order to raise funds to invade Afghanistan or whatever other country comes to mind as part of latter-day British Empire flag waving.

Finally, don't finish up with a vehicle that in 2 years' time will have more than 60k on the clock: it's not worth it.

My advice would be to sell your car or cars privately now -- you're not asking much, and there's always a market for sub-£1,500 vehicles -- and then look out for something like a Vauxhall Zafira (if you need the room) or, if a smaller car, then anything from the Vauxhall Astra / Ford Focus range (subject to the above caveats about CO2 bandings.)

As to where to buy, use the motor supermarket sites rather than the main dealers: you should look for a model that's 30 months old, so you still have the balance of the standard three-year manufacturer warranty to sort out any post-purchase problems. However, if / when you do find one, check your local main dealerships to see if they have anything similar in stock, then see if you can bounce 'em into offering their vehicle at the same price as that of the motormart.

    Good luck.
