Cleaning of black granite work surfaces

Options
I'm just about to order my black granite work surfaces and have been advised by friends that black granite is a nightmare to keep clean and looking good:eek:

Apparently it shows up every mark and requires constant polishing and buffing - although good for keeping arms nice and toned!

Have any of you got black granite and how do you find the maintenance?

    Hi there,

I have black granite worksurfaces and they are lovely to look at but I am not sure I would buy them again due to the fact they do show up every mark. I use an E cloth on them regularly and that cleans it a treat.

    Hello

I have black/silver granite worktops (if you know what I mean Nero Impala I thinks it's called). I find them really easy to keep clean! I use marble wipes I get from Waitrose and hardly any elbow grease involved.
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!
  • Whether it's easy or dfficult to clean is perhaps relative to the spatial area (size of surface) to be maintained. Cleaning wooden furniture, for example, in a bedsit will not be the same as in a four-bedroom townhouse. Emmalou, is that the worry?

I found at first they were very had to keep smear free but after a while that seemed to wear off . I also bought a spray especially for granite from homebase ( cant remember the name sorry ) it doent have to be used everytime.

Sadly granite floor tiles can never be kept looking nice no matter what i do !
  • i clean balck granite (not my house) and i use an e cloth too, i think you're advised not to put kitchen spray on, so i wipe with a damp cloth, then rub over with an e cloth to take away the smears and it work pretty well, also there is special granite sprays which i use about once a month, sometimes it brings it up really good and other times it leaves like a rainbow smear over it, i cant remember the name of it tho, but you put it on with a dry cloth then buff it up with another, but i still think the e cloth is the best:D
    totally a tog!:D
  • They are simple to clean. Damp cloth with a small drop of washing-up liquid, wipe all over and then buff dry with a tea towel - comes up great every time.

That's exactly what I do. It's easy to get stuck on things off because it's so smooth. And then just wipe back over with a dry tea towel and it's gleaming. Takes two seconds. If you just wipe with a damp cloth and leave it you will see smears.

Exactly what I do too! I love mine. It looks so expensive. (well, it was expensive!!!), but it looks great. damp cloth in right hand, tea towel to buff in left hand. Easy as pie.

Thanks everybody - I really do want black granite, so good to hear your cleaning tips. Perhaps a minor inconvenience for lovely looking surfaces. Yup, think I will definitely go for it.
