Tell me about it - I put myself down to go on the waiting list in Exeter a year and a half ago, and I still have 2 years to wait. The only thing I can suggest is asking for a small plot, but even then you may have to wait a while.

In the end, I managed to help set up a university allotment as part of the Green Society, but there's no running water, security or storage for that so it's not ideal.

I think that councils have a statutory responsibility to provide allotments under The Allotment Act. I seem to recall that if 6 or more people request an allotment they have to make land available. If 900 people have requested allotments and no land has been provided then I would have thought the council would have to allocate funds to purchase more land for allotments. There again, I'm not a lawyer and governmental organisations appear to have a habit of ignoring the law (or just interpreting it differently from the rest of us).

You are right. It mentions this in the allotment handbook I have.

If you have a patio what about raised beds. Not brilliant but could get you some veggies for this summer.

Says she muttering the only thing she has planted so far this year is sunflowers :rotfl:
