I also noted the debts older than 6 years but please don't go spouting this off to your creditors because statute barred does not count if you have not kept them up to date with your address so that they could write to you.
You need to read the OFT rules on statute barred debts and and to speak to someone like the National Debt line about your situation. I do not think that we can advise on the possibility of these being statute barred just on the basis of your messages.

Debt advice http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
You must also ensure that when you start to address this, you request the Consumer Credit Agreement and letter of assignment from any DCA that claims to own the debt, if it was for a CC or loan for example. ODs and mobile phone contracts are not generally covered.
Given the age of these debts, most of them will have been bought by the sort of DCA that specialise in unrecoverable debts, so please make sure that you get loads of proper advice and do not write to or ring any DCA before getting advice or make any payments over the phone or to a door step collector. I would actually recommned that you do not ever telephone any of them, only write.

Hi RAS - Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.
I wouldn't expect any of you to know or advise me whether or not my debts are statute barred - my confusion is over whether I should have informed them of my new address when I moved (several times) and whether not informing them has any consequences?
But I suppose everyone's situation is different and the best thing I can do is read all the relevant information I can.
Thanks for this link - it's great:

You've just helped me to realise that I need to know all I can BEFORE making my first move. I'm going to try and list exactly what I need to do next - step by step, so I don't shoot myself in the foot!
Sorry if I'm babbling, I'm just thinking aloud and coming to the conclusion that this is going to be an even bigger job than I already knew it was going to be!
Thanks again

Hi there
Would I be right in assuming that if you are living with your parents, that you have basically no assets? If this is the case then I would consider going bankrupt.
The only reason I suggest this is that each of your debts particularly the statute barred one may have been passed between several debt collection agencies by now, and it is not unheard of for more than one company to be trying to recover the same debt.
You might want to ask about this on the bankruptcy forum though, because I don't know how bankruptcy works if not all of your creditors know where you are.
best of luck

This is not a babble. A large number of people come on here who have been paying debts that could not be recovered if the case went to court, sometimes even debts that they did not even owe because they were scared of damaging their credit rating at a time when they were applying for a mortgage, for example.
There are a number of DCAs that are rather less concerned about whether the debt is owed than about getting money from some-one and less than scrupulous about how they acheive that. You need to know the law before you dive in.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
