Cat has Dandruff

What can cause my cat to have dandruff? I have fleaed him last week but its still there, any suggestions?

Could be a number of things, including the flea medication. Best ask your vet?

Maybe the food you are feeding him is lacking in fatty acids, and is leading to dry skin. try feeding him a spoonful of olive or fish oil to his food everyday.

Some cats get scaly skin if they eat too much fish but I would certainly get it checked by the vet

If he is of a certain age - it could be geriatric dandruff ... quite a lot of oldies get it. Not life threatening in itself or it could indicate an underlying condition, best have him checked over.

What foods do you feed him?

We always fed our cats whiskas and I only recently found they aren't the best - they only have 4% of meat for example. and some foods have corn which can be hard for cats to digest - alot of it's filler

When i get my new cat in a few months I'm going to look into some dry foods, purina one and Iams seem to have better ingredients though it's only a personal opinion

O/T but here you go: Iams and Hills Adult both have approx 32% protein/21% fat. Purina Adult 36% protein/16% fat. Go Cat 32% protein/10% fat. I find Iams very greasy to handle and strong smelling [maybe nice to cats].

Thank you, we feed him dry iams in the evening and wet iams in the mornings and he is 2 years old. I think i will take him to the vet if it doesn't clear up by next weekend.

Current freebie, seems to be salmon based. Maybe of use?

Try getting them out a bit more in the fresh air. With all the weather being horrible he may not have been outdoors as much as usual.
