Hi Folks,
Daughters PC crashed and I have managed to rebuild it but cannot find the original CD with the operating system on (XP Home edition). Anyone know where the cheapest place is to buy Windows XP Home Edition from?
Much Appreciated.

If you already have a licence, which I presume you do you should not need a new licence mearly a copy of the cd, which will make it alot cheaper. If you know anyone who works in IT they will probably have a copy or two.
However if you don't have a licence I would expect to pay £50 look on ebay ( but beware of fakes ) and also in the adverts in the magazine Micro Mart. Sorry I dont have any specific places. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

For a different problem I phoned HP 08456014795 call centre (Cape Town) and also asked them about this as I don't have the CD and want to do updates. The man said you can download the driver from the HP website. He said just log on (www.hp.co.uk and search for drivers) I've been trying to do this all evening, and nothing is obvious so I've sent an e-mail to HP Help.
I'll keep a watch on this thread to see if you decide to phone the above, and if you get any joy would you mind posting again? And if I get a reply to my e-mail from HP, I'll also post.
That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure someone must have done this and could take us through it.

I've now received a reply from HP, but am unsure of whether they have properly understood my question. But you could e-mail too and get an answer fairly quickly, it seems. I only e-mailed them about an hour ago.

@Jennifer_Jane
I don't have any knowledge about Windows drivers.
But if you start a new thread and describe your problem maybe someone else will be able to help.

The OP can't legally install that on the computer as it's not a new build.0 -

what do you mean the OP cant legally install the OEM OS on his daughters pc, i had a similar problem, i couldnt reinstall windows from the disk i had so i bought the oem version from ebuyer plus my pc isnt a new buildNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Depends, if the OP can't find the COA they can't legally install an OEM version of XP.
As you rightly said though fi they have the COA all they need is the right vresion on a disc from a friend or elsewhere and they're sorted. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

I didn't say you couldn't install it, just that you legally can't as OEM is meant only for supply with a new computer. The OP's isn't a new computer. Ebuyer really shouldn't have sold you it without purchasing qualifying hardware as well.0 -
cymro,
Is there a COA sticker on your machine?
Surely that's the first question that should be asked0
